"Convergence" Exhibition
"Convergence" is a photo series that explores where we are going and where we have been. This series is meant to be more than a historical comparison; it is an invitation to reflect on how far we have come and to consider the path we are on. My photo series portrays how technology has impacted humanity and transformed our understanding of reality, infiltrating all aspects of our lives, including family dynamics, child's play, communication, the workplace, and personal relationships.
In the photographs "from the 1960s," I aimed to capture a simpler, more connected way of life. It was an era where people were more rooted in their environments and human interaction. Each image is meant to evoke a sense of nostalgia, portraying moments of genuine connection - between people and the natural world around them. I strived to capture the feeling of bygone days not only through wardrobe and location choices, but also through the capture and treatment of the images. When possible, I opted for the warmth of natural sunlight and worked towards creating softer images by adding grain and vintage tones.
In contrast, the images representing contemporary life depict a world fully immersed in technology. Our modern existence is defined by constant digital stimuli, pulling us away from the present moment and blurring the boundaries between reality and virtuality. The order of the images is carefully curated to escalate in intensity and discomfort from one to the next, creating a sense of just how rapidly technology is progressing. To create a stronger technological and futuristic feel, I chose to incorporate more artificial lighting, creating a slightly unnatural atmosphere through the use of harsh shadows or unconventional color choices.
Interestingly, among the chaos of screens and devices, I've noticed many feel a longing for genuine connection and a return to simplicity and authenticity.
